Origins is a turn-based RPG made using the RPGMaker VX Engine, ant then being transfered to Sphere. It is being developed by ScytheRaorr using both makers.

Gameplay

The game plays much like any other computer RPG, where you use the arrow keys to move in a 3/4 overhead perspective, talk to people, trigger events and take part in combat.

Features

Leveling attacks and abilities - The more you use an attack or ability, the stronger it grows! Offensive moves gain strength while defensive moves help more.

Differences between the two makers - By porting the game from RPGM to Sphere, obviously things will change. What those things are and how they will change is still under development.

Combat

Combat is done turn based, where when you select your action, it is carried out immediately, reminiscent of Final Fantasy X. A turn counter is displayed overhead to help map out moves. It is carried out in a first-person style, where all you see is the enemy. This allows for more enemies to be on the screen at any given time, and allows for abilities/skills to be able to show more in their animated graphics.

Controls

These controls can be changed via menu options in-game.

  • Cursor keys are used to move around on maps, and change menu selections.
  • Z advances dialogue, talks to people, triggers events and chooses menu items.
  • X cancels out of a menu and rasies the main menu, where the character's stats and abilities can be viewed, and where the game can be saved and exited.

I am hoping to get screenshots of the RPGM version up soon, as it is the one I am currently working on. Hopefully, I can start making the transfer from RPGM to Sphere within the next month or so.
